worldly wednesday: the sachertorte a visit to austria

When asking friends what first popped into their minds when they thought about Austria was nothing short of the typical American response. One friend began singing,”The hills are alive with the sound of music….With songs they have sung for a thousand years!” Hmmm. I asked them to give me another image that popped into their minds. Another friend replied, “Edelweiss.” Then she broke out into song, “Edelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me. Small and white, clean and bright you look happy to meet me.” I had no idea my friends were such Sound of Music aficionados.
